About Alfred Mann

Alfred E. Mann, Founder of RoundTrip, is the kind of dedicated visionary who is determined to help the blind to see and the deaf to hear. A serial entrepreneur and biomedical innovator, Mr. Mann also serves as chairman of the board and CEO of MannKind Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company developing therapeutic products for the treatment of diabetes and cancer. Other successful companies he founded include: Advanced Bionics, which uses neurostimulation to restore hearing to the deaf and to treat chronic pain and other neural deficits; Second Sight, which is developing a visual prosthesis for the blind; Pacesetter Systems, manufacturer of cardiac pacemakers; Quallion, which produces batteries for medical, military, and aerospace applications; and MiniMed, which provides microinfusion drug delivery for diabetes therapy.

A member of the National Academy of Engineering and a noted philanthropist, Mr. Mann serves as non-executive Chairman of the Alfred Mann Foundation, the Alfred Mann Institute at the University of Southern California, and the Alfred Mann Foundation for Biomedical Engineering. He holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in physics from the University of California at Los Angeles, along with honorary doctorates from Johns Hopkins University, the University of Southern California, Western University, and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
